The Moulin Bonaventure in Valensole : olives, lavender and almonds
At the very core of the Alpes- de-Hautes-Provence, the Valensole plateau is renowned for its never ending lavender field, its wheat field and its almond trees. More understated, the olive tree lives on the south hillside. Simple, the tree learnt how to take advantage of these land of little and rocks.
At 600m over the see level, between the durance river and the Verdon river, we have exceptional days of sunshine in a pure atmosphere always renewed by the mistral wind coming from the north.
Since 1978, we cultivate 30 hectares of organic crops. The olive trees, lavender and almond trees are the main perennial crops. Wheat is cultivated in rotation with honey flower to restore the land. Soon, new field of aromatic flowers will complete our production. in addition, we occasionally welcome some sheep to bring us some organic waste.
Since 2005, we installed an olive mill so we can product our own olive oil, directly in our farm. We are happy to propose you to come to the mill to have you visit the place and explain you all about our work. We can propose you to walk around in our olive tree field and to stop by, at the shop where you can find all the products we produce ourselves.
We can of course welcome groups and school groups to share our passion but in this case, please, let us know a bit in advance.
At the mill, apart from French, you will hear German, English or Italian and Spanish because we are just like you: from everywhere around the world.
